Peg-y-Don

Fully equipped holiday house, new for 2024

Peg-y-Don has been completely overhauled for 2024. It was hard work, but we are very happy with the result and it is a house that we hope will love as much as we do.

The property is found at the excellent Newport Links Golf Course and was previously known as ‘The Professional’s House’. It is the last property at the end of the terrace:

Peg-y-Don location

The house has three bedrooms and sleeps six. There are two double bedrooms (king size beds – not splittable) and one twin room (two single beds). There is one travel cot provided but plenty of floor space in the two double rooms if you want your little ones sleeping near you.

One of the double bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom (WC, wash basin and shower) and there is a separate family bathroom (WC, wash basin, bath and shower). There is also a separate WC downstairs.

All appliances are brand new, as are the beds and (high quality) mattresses. We have done our best to stock the kitchen with all the utensils that you should need, but will always welcome feedback as we want to make sure that you have the best possible stay at the house. We do not currently have a coffee machine in the house as we prefer to support The Cat Rock Cafe, which serves excellent (in our opinion) coffee.

We hope that the following photos give you a flavour of what to expect if you decide to stay at Peg-y-Don.

FAQs

We hope that this website gives you a good overview of Peg-y-Don and Newport. Here are some answers to questions that are not covered elsewhere.

If there is anything else that you would like to know, please do not hesitate to get in touch so that we can help.

You can read what others have to say about the house on our reviews page.

Nothing!

We grew up staying at Brig-y-Don on the Parog, so it is a nod to our past. You will see a lot of ‘y-don’ (‘of the wave’) and ‘y-mor’ (‘of the sea’) house names in Newport and we decided on a name that sounds Welsh, but it is not actually Welsh at all.

It is also a salute to our crazy dog, Peggy. Here she is after a quick scramble up to the top of Carningli:

The best way to book a stay at Peg-y-Don is to use the online booking form on this site. You can browse availability and secure your holiday using the calendar.

The house is advertised on other portals but you can always get the best possible pricing by booking directly on this site.

We (the owners) are based a long away from lovely Newport, so Peg-y-Don is managed by West Wales Property Management who will be able to help you with any issues that may arise during your holiday.

Contact details will be provided before your arrival and you can relax in the knowledge that help is moments away should you have any questions.

There is a keysafe outside the house and you will be given all the details that you need prior to arrival.

We request a 16:30 check in to give the cleaners time to get ready for your arrival, but you are welcome to turn up at any point after then and let yourself in.

If you are early, you should still be able to park at the house and pop to the beach or chill out at Cafe Mawr or Cat Rock Cafe.

Absolutely!

There are two spaces immediately outside the rear of the property that are yours to use:

Peg-y-Don Parking

You can no longer park on the beach itself, so it is possible that the golf club parking may get busy but these two (large) spaces are yours to use.

We hope that you will park up and then not get back in the car for the duration of your stay as everything is accessible on foot. The beach is a stone’s throw away and you can save having to pay for the beach car park.

That is a difficult question to answer as everyone has different needs / expectations on holiday!

You will find all fresh bed linen and towels etc ready on your arrival, so no need to worry about that. We do not supply beach towels so please bring those if you plan on making the most of the beach.

The kitchen is very well stocked in terms of pots / pans / utensils / etc but please bring your own food supplies.

There should be salt / pepper / washing up liquid / etc is in the house but it is near impossible to cater for every taste in coffee / tea / etc, so please bring anything that you are partial to with you.

The house uses EE for broadband, which is shared using a router that you will be given details for.

The BT broadband in the area is very slow, but the EE service is good. We were experiencing around 80MB download speeds (peaking at 120MB) and around 12MB upload speeds when we installed the external aerial for the router.

Whilst we have an ‘unlimited’ data service, there is a fair usage policy of 600GB per month, so we would kindly ask you not to abuse the wifi and certainly not share the password with others as it is not possible to top up the data allowance.

Guests are requested NOT to charge EVs at the house. We have not factored the energy costs into prices and politely ask you not to abuse this.

Car chargers are available at the beach car park and in the town centre.

Although the house is part of the the golf club complex, you do not need to be obsessed with golf to enjoy your stay and the house feels fairly separate from the club as it is perched at the end and has a surprisingly private garden that enjoys sunshine from dawn to dusk.

The club is, however, really friendly and the Cat Rock Cafe is fantastic. You need to factor in some dirty fries at some point during your stay as they are sublime.

If you do like golf, you could not be in a better position to enjoy the beautiful course. Preferential rates are available to all residents.

Extremely! You are very welcome to bring your faithful friends and they will have the time of their lives. Newport Sands beach is a paradise for dogs.

We do, however, politely request that you make every effort to keep your dogs within the garden and clear up any mess. Please be respectful to guests arriving after you and remember that not everyone loves dogs as much as you do.

Is the garden secure? That depends very much on your dog! There is a fence around the whole property, but it is very open:

If you have a dog that respects boundaries, you will be fine. If your dog identifies as Houdini, I would not trust the fence as a reliable barrier.

The stairs have a stair gate at the bottom which should be used to limit access for both canine and junior human friends. There is also a dog crate in the living room that you are welcome to use if your dog(s) is / are happy in a crate.

There is a hose by the front door if you need to wash your dog down.

Please read our blog post about how dog friendly Newport is for more canine related insight.

Children will love staying at Peg-y-Don, as will their parents!

The house has basic equipment for children and there is plenty of space for them to roam.

You will find a high chair, child cutlery and a travel cot in the house, so we hope that it will help reduce your packing.

The area is extremely safe and the enclosed garden is an excellent area to relax in with the family.

We do not advertise Peg-y-Don as an accessible holiday home.

Whilst the house can be accessed via a ramp from the car park, there is a flight of stairs in the house which would be problematic for wheelchair users and we would rather be honest and suggest that the area may not be the best choice if you have limited mobility.
